ATV rollover claims another child’s life in Mississippi

Now another child is dead and two others injured following an accident in the Hebron Community, located about halfway between Jackson and Hattiesburg in the south-central portion of state.

ATV deaths prompt Mississippi to consider better ATV legislation

big bearIn December we reported how one Mississippi coroner became an advocate of stricter laws governing the use of all-terrain vehicles in her state after witnessing the injury and death the vehicles can cause. Now, other people in that state are echoing the call for more legislation, including the Sheriff of Warren County, Mississippi and two state lawmakers.

Mississippi coroner supports legislation governing ATV safety

miss 100x100A Mississippi coroner has become a strong advocate of tougher laws governing the operation of all-terrain vehicles because of the horrific injuries she has seen on the job. Carolyn Gillentine-Green, the Coroner of Lee County, Mississippi, told Jackson’s Clarion-Ledger that she supported any measures that would improve safety in her state. “I’m a proponent for anything to make it safer,” Gillentine-Green told the paper.

Mississippi teen dies in Florida ATV accident

race 100x100A 14-year-old boy from Mississippi was killed Saturday in Laurel Hill, Florida, while practicing at a track for a series of all-terrain-vehicle races. The teen was identified as Christian Pierce from Sauceier, Miss.

Bad Boy ATVs recalled after reports of unintended acceleration

bad boyThe U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Bad Boy Enterprises LLC of Natchez, Mississippi announced a recall today of approximately 3,900 “Bad Boy Buggy” all-terrain vehicles. According to the CPSC alert, the off-road vehicles can accelerate suddenly and unexpectedly, posing serious safety risks to passengers and bystanders.

Community remembers girl killed in Yamaha Rhino rollover

maple leaf 150x150Lauren Dilworth’s family, friends, schoolmates, and teachers gathered near the entrance of Lewisburg Middle-High School in Lewisburg, Mississippi, to remember the 11-year-old girl who tragically lost her life last October when the Yamaha Rhino she was riding in rolled over. Lauren and her family had moved to DeSoto County from Alabama last June. Lauren attended the school for just a few weeks before the accident occurred in October.
