ATV rollover kills 22-year-old student pilot

pilot 2 (2)A 22-year-old student helicopter pilot was killed early Sunday morning when the all-terrain vehicle she was driving rolled over. Reports say that Aura Corina Dacin, who friends described as a free spirit, “wild child” and thrill seeker, was driving the at Oakland-Troy Airport in Troy, Michigan, when the rollover occurred.

Maryland boy drowns after ATV rollover

polaris pred 50A four-year-old boy was found dead last Saturday night in a creek bed after the all-terrain vehicle he was driving flipped, pinning him underneath. According to initial reports, the boy was last seen playing outside with a group of children on his parents’ property in Frederick County, Maryland, before he wandered off on his own and got on the Polaris Predator 50cc , a model designed for children.

ATV rollover claims another child’s life in Mississippi

prowler 100x100A bill that would have encouraged safety by setting age and passenger limits and requiring passengers to wear helmets died in Mississippi’s last legislative session. Now another child is dead and two others injured following an accident in the Hebron Community, located about halfway between Jackson and Hattiesburg in the south-central portion of state.

CPSC data shows false decline in ATV deaths and injuries

cpsc logo 100x100According to the Consumer Federation of America (CFA), the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recently published all-terrain vehicle data “appears to indicate that the numbers of deaths and injuries caused by ATVs declined in 2008 as compared to 2007.”

ATV rollover kills Arkansas boy

polaris2 100x100A 12-year old Arkansas boy was killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident on Sunday while conducting farm chores, Arkansas’ Hope Star reports. The victim, identified in the report as Garrett Malone, was driving a 2005 Polaris 500 on his family’s farm in Guernsey, Arkansas when the accident occurred.

Ontario boy severely injured in ATV rollover

offroad adolescentAs the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) pushes for legislation that would ban young children from riding all-terrain vehicles in the Canadian province, another boy has been severely injured in an accident. According to The Observer of Sarnia, Ontario, an 11-year-old boy from Warwick Township, located just northeast of Detroit and Windsor, was driving an unsupervised on private property when the accident occurred.

Ontario Medical Association wants children banned from ATVs

Unfortunately, Canada’s youngest citizens account for a significant percent of the injuries and deaths resulting from rollovers and collisions – a grim statistic that has prompted the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) to push for new legislation that would help protect many Ontario children from being injured or killed on ATVs.

ATV injuries skyrocketing in rural Canada

canadian offroaderAs in rural parts of the United States, all-terrain vehicles in rural Canada are becoming a way of life. Unhindered by wild, rugged landscapes, ATVs  for many seem like the perfect choice for hunting, trapping, farming, or just exploring and having fun trail blazing and off-roading. However, as the ATVs grow in popularity, so do the number of traumatic injuries reported by many hospitals. Sudbury Regional Hospital in northern Ontario, for instance, reports an explosion of -related trauma since 2007.
