Numbers pulled from the country’s national farm injury data reveal that one Australian farmer or child dies each month as a result of injuries received in accidents involving quad bikes (ATVs).

Ontario boy severely injured in ATV rollover

offroad adolescentAs the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) pushes for legislation that would ban young children from riding all-terrain vehicles in the Canadian province, another boy has been severely injured in an accident. According to The Observer of Sarnia, Ontario, an 11-year-old boy from Warwick Township, located just northeast of Detroit and Windsor, was driving an unsupervised on private property when the accident occurred.

ATV injuries skyrocketing in rural Canada

Unhindered by wild, rugged landscapes, ATVs  for many seem like the perfect choice for hunting, trapping, farming, or just exploring and having fun trail blazing and off-roading. However, as the ATVs grow in popularity, so do the number of traumatic injuries reported by many hospitals. Sudbury Regional Hospital in northern Ontario, for instance, reports an explosion of -related trauma since 2007.

ATV rollover claims the life of Alberta man

sawridge creek2The Edmonton Journal reported another -related death in Alberta involving a man who was found in a ditch adjacent to Highway 2 in the vicinity of Sawridge Creek. Royal Canadian Mounted Police from Slave Lake in central Alberta said the man was found by emergency workers around 2 a.m. on July 18. The victim was identified as Christopher Zuberbier of Wagner, Alberta. He was lying unresponsive underneath his overturned when emergency workers arrived at the scene.

Rhino lawsuit moves forward as Yamaha launches repair campaign

Yamaha Motor Co. is being sued in Canada over the death of a 13-year-old boy who lost his life when the he was driving rolled over. Wyatt Bauer, a resident of Rimbey, Alberta, was on vaction with his family in 2007 when the accident occurred. Like many other victims before him, Bauer was crushed under the weight of the vehicle. His family is seeking $316 million in damages ($400 million CA). The lawsuit can proceed to trial once it has been certified by a judge as a class action.

In Fairview, Canada on October 4, another fatal accident occurred involving a Yamaha Rhino. According to Sun Media, the passenger, a 29-year-old man, was thrown out of the , resulting in a fatality. Fortunately, the 31-year-old driver left the accident unscathed. The police were notified at 1:32 a.m. and found the flipped on private property.
