Rhino rollover kills California man, injures 5 others

rhino driver 100x100The Desert Sun of Palm Springs, California reported the death of a 31-year-old man who was killed when the Yamaha Rhino he was driving rolled over. Juan Carlos Camarillo, a resident of Garden Grove, Calif., was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Five others were also injured, including one who was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.

Yamaha Australia offers no Rhino safety recall

aussie flag 100x100Australia’s Daily Telegraph reports that Yamaha Australia is not extending the same UTV “voluntary repair program” to Australians that it did to Americans. On March 31, America and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission jointly announced that all customers should return their vehicles to their dealerships for a series of safety upgrades. Additionally, instructed its dealerships to cease selling any new inventory until those upgrades were made.

Rhino’s fundamental design flaws form basis of more lawsuits

west virginia 100x100Two more lawsuits have been filed against Motor Co. for injuries sustained in rollovers. One lawsuit was filed by a woman on behalf of her son, a minor who was injured in March 2008 when the he was riding in flipped. The other suit was filed by a man who received serious injuries when the he was driving rolled over in May 2007. Both plaintiffs are residents of West Virginia.

Rhino lawsuit moves forward as Yamaha launches repair campaign

Yamaha Motor Co. is being sued in Canada over the death of a 13-year-old boy who lost his life when the he was driving rolled over. Wyatt Bauer, a resident of Rimbey, Alberta, was on vaction with his family in 2007 when the accident occurred. Like many other victims before him, Bauer was crushed under the weight of the vehicle. His family is seeking $316 million in damages ($400 million CA). The lawsuit can proceed to trial once it has been certified by a judge as a class action.

Yamaha Rhino ATVs recall issued for two models

All Yamaha Rhino 450 and 660 model vehicles were recalled for repairs designed to prevent accidents that resulted in 46 deaths and hundreds of injuries. The reported deaths occurred between the fall of 2003, when the vehicles were first distributed, through this year.

Earlier this week we featured J.T. Crow, a 9-year-old boy who died when the he was a passenger in rolled onto its side, throwing him from the and pinning him underneath its unpadded roll cage. Since the accident, which occurred in June 2007, J.T.’s mother, Heidi Crow, embarked on a mission to “help save others from a tragic fate like J.T.’s.”

California man injured in Rhino rollover sues Yamaha

blue rhino for web 150x150A California man has filed a complaint against Yamaha Motor Corporation for severe injuries he sustained when his rolled over. 44-year-old Troy Bithell, a father of four, was riding in the with his daughter during a family camping trip. The two were driving in a dry lake bed in Johnson Valley when the accident occurred.

ATV safety questioned after fatal accident in Alabama

An accident in Russell County, Ala., turned fatal this weekend. Two boys, both age 13, were involved in the accident, and one was killed. Both boys were three years younger than the age suggested for operation, 16.

Girls die in yamaha rhino accident

October 18 marks two more deaths involving Rhinos. According to DeSoto Times, two 11-year-old girls, named Lauren Dilworth and Emily Bates, were not wearing protective gear or seat belts, which were installed in the vehicle, when the 2005 overturned and pinned the two girls’ bodies.
