ATV safety questioned after fatal accident in Alabama

An ATV accident in Russell County, Ala., turned fatal this weekend. Two boys, both age 13, were involved in the accident, and one was killed. Both boys were three years younger than the age suggested for ATV operation, 16.

Community grieves girls’ death

In the midst of  Southern Trails in the Lewisburg area, flowers rest where two friends named Emily Bates and Lauren Dilworth died in a Yamaha Rhino accident. According to the DeSoto Times, many people were alarmed after their deaths.

Girls die in yamaha rhino accident

October 18 marks two more deaths involving Yamaha Rhinos. According to DeSoto Times, two 11-year-old girls, named Lauren Dilworth and Emily Bates, were not wearing protective gear or seat belts, which were installed in the vehicle, when the 2005 ATV overturned and pinned the two girls’ bodies.

father’s slide show for daugher killed in Rhino rollover

It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” This quote opens the heartwarming photo slide show of Ellie Sand. On May 10, 2008, John Sand, Ellie’s father, created a slide show that traces Ellie’s life from birth to her last year of life - her 10th year.

October 28, 2008, will mark the anniversary of this young girl’s death, which was lost on a Yamaha Rhino; her body could not withstand the 1,100-pound weight of the ATV, which rolled over and crushed her.

man dies in Rhino ATV crash

In Fairview, Canada on October 4, another fatal accident occurred involving a Yamaha Rhino. According to Sun Media, the passenger, a 29-year-old man, was thrown out of the ATV, resulting in a fatality. Fortunately, the 31-year-old driver left the accident unscathed. The police were notified at 1:32 a.m. and found the ATV flipped on private property. The police have reason to believe that alcohol may have contributed to the accident.

Still, another person has unfortunatuely died while riding a Yamaha Rhino.

Texas boy dies in Rhino rollover

A Texas boy, Michael McCloud, age 8, died over the weekend when he was thrown from a Yamaha Rhino when it rolled over. He was a passenger on the vehicle, driven by 12-year-old Kinsey McCloud, also of Richardson, Texas. The accident took place in McClain County, Oklahoma. It is unclear if or how the two youngsters are related.

ATV or ORV?

There appears to be some debate about classifying vehicles such as the Yamaha Rhino as an Off Road Vehicle (ORV), sometimes also called Off Highway Vehicle (OHV), versus an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV). While ATVs are also classified as ORVs or OHVs, because they are designed to be operated off standard asphalt highway surfaces, not all OHVs can be called ATVs, according to a story recently published in The Northern Times, serving Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada.

Pitt toddler Rhino ride causes stir

Like it or hate it, celebrities these days are watched and imitated. The celebrity tabloid world was buzzing today about a photo snapped of Brad Pitt holding his 2-year-old daughter, Shiloh, on his lap while he was driving a Yamaha Rhino ATV. Star watchers bashed the actor, noting that the Rhino is a powerful and heavy piece of equipment, and that he was placing the child in an unsafe situation.

Family 4th marred by rollover

davidsxray-150x150I recently came across a blog post from a family in Utah. All set to enjoy a long weekend at a mountain cabin, their plans came to an abrupt halt when a Yamaha Rhino rollover accident resulted in a trip to the emergency room. It actually could have been worse. An uncle loaded a few of his nieces and their friends onto the Rhino and thrilled the girls by doing “doughnuts.” However, the Rhino rolled over, throwing the girls and pinning the uncle underneath.

New York boy saves father in rollover

An 11-year-old boy in New York state was honored recently for his heroic action in a Yamaha Rhino rollover accident, which Keesville Volunteer Fire Department personnel credit with saving his father’s life. The boy, Ryan Mills, pulled his dad, Albert, from under the 2,000-pound recreational vehicle. The Rhino flipped during a turn and pinned the man’s leg underneath, badly crushing it. The boy then ran for home, drove a large pickup truck back to the accident scene and drove his father home, where emergency personnel were able to reach him.
